Mass Murder in the Berkeley Hills or Where Have All the Squirrels Gone?

I bought this house in 2004. From the day I moved in until about 2 months ago there were squirrels everywhere. They would wake me up in the morning by jumping on the roof, chewing on the side of the house, desperately trying to eat the bird food and in general making a nuisance of themselves. There must have been 25 or more of them living close to, around and beside this house.

Suddenly one day they disappeared. No more jumping on the roof, no more chewing on the house, no more eating the bird food, no more sunning themselves on the deck,  they were gone. Completely gone. I noticed the silence of the squirrels and didn't question it. I was just grateful. They weren't waking me up in the wee hours of the morning, they weren't eating my house, they weren't eating the bird food.

Then my SO mentioned the absence of the squirrels and it came into the front cortex of my brain. That's right there used to be 25 or more squirrels living here with me on this bit of property and now there are none or at least very few. Hum. What happened, where did they go? I called Berkeley Vector Control, they knew nothing, I called Berkeley Animal Control, same story, they knew nothing. But all the squirrels are gone! Anybody know what happened to them? Does anybody out there know what happened to the squirrels in the Berkeley Hills? If anyone has a clue I'd love to know.

The delinquency rate for prime mortgages over 60 days behind more than doubled from the first quarter of 2008 (1.1%) to the fourth (2.4%) while serious delinquencies for Alt-A mortgages jumped from 5.18% to 9.1%. For context, the serious delinquency rate for subprime mortgages was 10.75% in the first quarter of 2008 (16.4% in the fourth).

The delinquency rate for prime mortgages in the U.S. has hit an all-time high, yet mortgage rates remain near all-time lows.
